EBENEZER MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH COVENANT
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour; and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge and holiness; to give it a place in our affections, prayers and services above every organization of human origin; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrine; to contribute cheerfully and regularly, as God has prospered us, towards its expenses, for the support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. In case of difference of opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit, and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to govern.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study diligently the word of God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our employ, and faithful in the service we promise others; endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will towards all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith.
We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and sir up each other unto every good word and work; to guard each other’s reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each other’s joys, and with tender sympathy bear one another’s burdens and sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Saviour in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, who hath called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.
When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s word.

How do I become a member of your church? What is required?
At the end of service on Sundays, there is an Invitation to Christian Discipleship offered. During this invitation, if you will raise your hand or stand where you are, a Decision-time Counselor will greet you and take you out of the service in order to speak with you privately. The Counselor will ask, and you will then tell him/her that you wish to become a member of Ebenezer. The Counselor, after your conversation is complete, will give you a Discipleship 101 Booklet, which coincides with New Members’ Orientation. The Counselor will explain this further in detail. Once New Members’ Orientation is complete, you will receive the Right Hand of Fellowship from Pastor Jones, giving you all the rights and responsibilities as a full-fledged member of Ebenezer.

Is there transportation for me if I want to visit and don’t have a vehicle?
Yes, we will come and pick you up! Call our church at 409-835-7592 to arrange to be picked up by our church van.
What if I want to be baptized? What kind of baptism does your church believe in? When is it? Who do I need to talk to?
We believe, here at Ebenezer, in total water immersion baptism. We are placed into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit at salvation. This is a separate event from believer’s baptism in water which is used as a physical representation of a spiritual truth. Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection are what is necessary to save us and guarantee our resurrection. Believer’s baptism is a way to identify with the death of our Savior and to show the world an internal repentance and spiritual regeneration (Romans 6; Matthew 28:19). Believer’s baptism is also done as a step of obedience. It is not done to earn salvation, but as a way to show commitment to Christ and His will. We see baptism as a form of obedience in Acts 2 when looking at the formation of the early church. The new believer’s heard the Word of God; repented of their sins; and believed Christ was the answer to their sins. Then they were baptized and joined the church (Acts 2:37-42)
Baptism is generally held on 2nd Sundays at 10:00 a.m. whenever we have candidates for Baptism. If you would like to speak with someone further about baptism, call the church office at 409-835-7592 or email at embcsecretary@aol.com.
Is there specific training/classes to help me with my spiritual growth?
Yes! We here at Ebenezer strongly believe in Discipleship Training! Pastor Jones currently holds his “Pastor’s Bible Class” on the 1st and 3rd Sundays, 9:00 a.m., in the Historical Building. Everyone is welcome—you do not have to be a member of Ebenezer to attend. This class is exploring the Bible, book-by-book, chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse. Study Guides are provided, and the class is recorded so if you miss any, or just want to have a more in-depth study on your own, you may purchase a CD for only $5.00.
If I need to talk with someone for counseling purposes, who do I contact? Is it confidential?
If you would like to speak with someone confidentially, please call our Church Secretary, Terri Tappen, at 409-835-7592 to set up an appointment at your convenience with one of our Biblical Counselors. Rest assured we protect your privacy and all information is kept under the strictest of confidentiality.
I am not sure that I am a Christian. Who can answer my questions?

She will be happy to put you in touch with someone to address your concerns/questions. In the meantime, on the home page of our website there is a place that says, “What must I do to be saved?” Click there, and discover some important information that will certainly bless you!
I need help in reading and studying my bible. Do you have a bible reading plan or other suggestions?
There are many Bible websites and apps that have suggestions on Bible reading plans. There is a place here on our website where you can research Bible reading plans. As well, our Bible Study Sessions on Wednesdays, 6:55 p.m., to 8:00 p.m. provide a great way to study your Bible. Pastor Kavin L. Jones, Sr., is an expository teacher, which provides a verse-by-verse method of studying the Bible. In Bible Study, he begins at the beginning of a chosen Book of the Bible, and continues through that Book all the way to the end—no matter how long it may take to complete. This is the most in-depth method of Bible Study in the area and provides a great way for individuals to study the Word of God. CDs are available for Bible Study Sessions for a cost of only $5.00.
